Artistic Statement as Provided by the Writer
The spread of Covid-19 divided Americans physically - separating us from those we love. The recent presidential election divided us emotionally, as a nation. These were two of the many, many struggles that have made 2020 a difficult year. So much so that mental health has been at an all time low, particularly within the age groups of our generation. With all that being considered, we decided to take an opportunity to film the highlights of life, as it can be lived even today while we are still facing the pandemic.
Behind the Scenes
Due to COVID restrictions of 2020, the production of this short film was limited to three crew members total. We each wore multiple hats and served as needed in above the line and below the line production roles. I specifically served as an actor, as we quickly realized we could not hire more people to join our crew. I also served as a director of photography by helping the director film his vision through story boarding, camera placement, and camera movement. In some of the shots where I am not present, I served as a camera operator, whereas the director served as camera operator for the shots I acted in. The writer also pitched in with some B-roll footage which we were able to piece together in the film. I served as a lead editor, with the director putting the footage in order and adding sound effects, and with I creating any transitions, graphic works, incorporating music and finalizing the overall project.
